Over the last 30 years, Professor Beck has become one of the world’s pre-eminent specialists in the field of retail loss prevention. He is currently the academic advisor to the ECR Community Retail Loss Group, with whom he developed the concept of Total Retail Loss, a concept helping businesses understand the overall impact of loss on their organisations. He recently completed ground-breaking studies on losses associated with Self-scan Checkouts and the use of Video Technologies in retailing. Now an Emeritus Professor at the University of Leicester in the UK, he regularly organises and speaks around the world.

Tom’s technology career began at Symbol Technologies, Inc. (acquired by Motorola) in 1994 as part of the data-capture solutions business. He has been granted 20+ patents and is a Zebra Distinguished Innovator and Science Advisory Board associate. Bianculli holds BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from Polytechnic University, NYU and serves on the board of directors for the School of Engineering at the New York Institute of Technology.
